The Sentence Executed
The angels turned away their eyes
From that face that burned with right,
Then watched Him part away to fallen Earth;
Where men bowed down to pleasure’s toys,
There God was born a baby boy.
To bear their worshipped pleasures awful curse.
I saw the wrath stored up for men
There fall upon that spotless lamb;
Upon the One that angels dared not look.
That face so true that Heaven quaked,
Man’s spit and blood bore for their sake,
Until it cleansed each saint within His book.
I saw Him bleed, I saw Him die,
I saw Him not, then saw Him rise;
Then saw Him rise in me, to make me new;
I worshiped there, there filled with love,
I thanked the One come from above;
Oh sinner come and taste, and thank Him too!
That wrath that justice sent for men,
Has fallen on this spotless lamb,
Upon the One that angels dared not gaze;
That face so true that Heaven quaked
Come now and see it beam with grace,
And drink the cup of hope through endless days.
