A 4th of July Lament

We pray four our country this 4th of July
O God kindly hear now our desperate cry
We’ve boldly transgressed Your good laws for long years
Now judgment approaches to call the arrears.
Could mercy now touch those besotted with sin?
Could your favour enlighten our land once again?
We are owed naught but wrath, no appeal do we make
But to humble ourselves and to beg for Thy grace.
